THE BLACK DOT PROJECT is a visual awareness platform on sexual violence in India. It was a campaign created to mark the horrific rape of the woman known as "NIRBHAYA" on December 16, 2012.
It is also the story of people working in unison towards impacting one social goal. It began in collaboration with the passionate and good people working at VERTIVER in New, Delhi, India. We started with a series of portraits and multimedia pieces. Many women and men were willing to come forward and be photographed and speak out on this topic.
Then the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego (MOPA) decided to get involved too. They sponsored a workshop involving twelve young photographers from New Delhi and a five day Workshop was created. The students were brilliant and made compelling and thoughtful images and multimedia pieces.
During this Workshop a prominent theater group in New Delhi decided to join in as well and perform two large street performances on the topic to draw even more people into the conversation.
Positive change is possible through awareness and collaboration. I believe it... These are a few images from the experience.
